Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

Wolves that look like sheep

A wolf that looks like a wolf is easy to recognise. The danger of a false prophet is precisely that he looks like one of the flock. He uses the same words and sings the same songs.

So how can you tell? Right after this, Jesus gives the test: look at the fruit. Elsewhere he calls himself the good shepherd. His sheep know his voice. If you know that voice, you won't easily be fooled by one that only sounds like it.

Question for today

Whose voice do I use to test what I hear?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you are the good shepherd. Teach me to know your voice, so that I don't go running after another voice. Amen.
