In his name

Many Christians end their prayers with 'in Jesus' name'. That is more than a closing formula. In those days, speaking in someone's name meant: on their behalf, with their authority and according to their will. An envoy who spoke in the king's name didn't simply pass on his own wishes.

That's why Jesus also says what it is for: through the Son, the Father is to be honoured. Whoever prays in Jesus' name asks for what he would want. Prayers like that, he promises to answer. He even says it twice in a row.
