Command or promise

If you put the two translations on this site side by side, you'll notice a difference. The King James Version says: keep my commandments. That is a command. The modern translation says: you will keep my commandments. That is a promise. The Greek manuscripts differ here by just one letter.

Both readings say something true. Love calls for action. And if you truly love someone, you will naturally do what matters to them. Earlier that same evening, Jesus had given them a new commandment: love one another.

Question for today

What can I do today to show that I love Jesus?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I want to love you, and not only with words. Let my love show in what I do today. Amen.
