Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham.

A son of Abraham too
For the people of Jericho, Zacchaeus no longer belonged. He collected taxes for the Romans and had grown rich from it. Jesus gives him back a title of honour: he too is a son of Abraham. Not: he has become one again. He is one.
And salvation comes to this house. In those days a house meant a whole household: family, servants and possessions. Salvation begins with one person and then spills out into the street.
Question for today
Who still belongs in God's eyes, even though I had written them off?
Prayer
Lord, you give people their place back. Give me your eyes, even for those I had given up on. Amen.
