The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.

The one work
The people ask: what should we be doing to carry out the works of God? They are thinking of a list. Jesus answers in the singular. Not the works, but the work. And that one work is believing.
Too easy, you might think. Or too vague. Jesus calls believing a work, and yet it is the opposite of earning something. It means trusting someone else: the one God has sent. It isn't about doing more. All you have to do is turn towards him.
Question for today
Am I trying to earn something from God that he only asks me to trust him for?
Prayer
Father, I so want to show that I'm doing my best. Teach me that the first work is trust. Amen.
