You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.

To the end
Jesus is honest about what lies ahead for his disciples: floggings, like the forty lashes minus one that Paul later received five times. Betrayal, even within families. Hatred, because you belong to him. And then: the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.
That end may be the end of your life, or of this age. Being saved doesn't mean here that you are spared suffering. It means that suffering doesn't win. Persevering is usually not heroic. It is staying, even on the days when things go against you.
Question for today
What helps me persevere when believing costs me something?
Prayer
Lord, I'm not as strong as I would like to be. Hold me fast when the road is long. Amen.
