I will come back

Jesus is going away, but not for good: I will come back. The most important part comes at the end of the sentence: that where I am, there ye may be also. He doesn't describe the future as a place full of beautiful things, but as being with him.

Later, writing from prison, Paul said he longed to depart and be with Christ, which was far better. For him too, what mattered was not where, but with whom. So whoever knows Jesus now already knows something of where they are going.

Question for today

What do I long for when I think about the future?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, the future isn't unknown country to me, but the place where you are. Thank you for your promise to come back and take us home. Amen.
