Word 490 of 491Trust

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. … I, Jesus, have sent My angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star.

I, Jesus

At the very end the speaker signs with his own name: I, Jesus. Nowhere else in the Bible does it appear exactly like this. Earlier God calls himself Alpha and Omega, the first letter of the alphabet and the last. Here Jesus says it of himself.

He also calls himself the root and the offspring of David. In Isaiah a new shoot grows from the felled stump of Jesse, David's father. Jesus is that shoot, and the root beneath it too. What seemed written off still has a living root.

Question for today

Is there something I've written off that still has roots with God?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you are the beginning and the end of my story. Let me know that life can still come from what looks dead. Amen.
