Fishers of men

Simon and Andrew were casting their net into the Sea of Galilee. Matthew tells it briefly, without the great catch of fish that Luke describes. Jesus didn't make them learn another trade first. He took their own work and gave it a new direction. They would become fishers of men.

All Jesus asked at first was that they follow him. He himself would make them what they were to become. They left their nets at once. What they had learned as fishermen, they took with them. What they couldn't yet do, he would teach them.

Question for today

Which skill or gift of mine does Jesus want to give a new direction?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you call me as I am, with what I can do. I want to follow you. Make of me what I cannot become on my own. Amen.
