Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You. For You granted Him authority over all people, so that He may give eternal life to all those You have given Him.

The hour has come

A refrain runs through John's Gospel. At Cana: my hour has not yet come. Later, when they want to seize him: his hour had not yet come. Now, at the end of the last evening, Jesus looks up and says: Father, the hour has come.

For chapters he has been talking with his friends. Now he talks with his Father, while they stand by. What is coming he can no longer explain to them. He can only place it in God's hands. Sometimes talking with people runs out, and praying is what remains.

Question for today

Which hour do I see coming, and do I dare to talk it over with God?

Prayer

Father, when the hard hour comes, let me lift my eyes to you as Jesus did, and tell you about it. Amen.
