On the other side

After Jesus' resurrection, seven disciples are back in Galilee. They go fishing again at night, but catch nothing. In the morning Jesus is standing on the beach, but they don't recognise him. He calls out: children, do you have any fish? It was a warm, informal way for an older man to speak to young men, a bit like calling them lads.

A stranger advises seasoned fishermen, and they still listen. The same boat, the same water, the same net, only the other side. At once the net is so full they can't haul it in. Only then does one of them recognise him. The difference wasn't a new technique, but whose word they followed.

Question for today

Will I try one more time, if he says so?

Prayer

Lord, from my boat I see very little. Give me the trust to cast my net where you tell me. Amen.
