Word 390 of 491Trust

In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you. Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.

Because I live

Soon the world will no longer see me, says Jesus on the evening before his death. But you will. I live, so you will live too. So your life doesn't hang on your own breath, but on his.

To whom does he show himself? To whoever has his commandments and also keeps them. That isn't the same thing. A Bible on the shelf isn't yet a word that is kept. Keeping means watching over it, like a guard. Whoever does that doesn't get an extra rule in return, but a person.

Question for today

If I'm honest, what does my life really hang on?

Prayer

You are alive, Lord Jesus, even now as I pray. Teach me not only to have your words, but to keep them too. Amen.
