Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man: People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

The days of Noah
Jesus doesn't mention murders or great crimes from Noah's time. He mentions eating, drinking and marrying. Ordinary things. Matthew adds that people noticed nothing until the flood came.
It is exactly that ordinariness that makes it uncomfortable. Nobody does wrong by celebrating a wedding. The danger lies in living as if nothing exists but the next meal and the next plan. Meanwhile Noah was building an ark. A ship like that stands out. Yet they looked right past it.
Question for today
What am I so caught up in that I've stopped paying attention?
Prayer
Lord, thank you for food, for celebrations and for plans. Let me see what you are doing in the meantime. Amen.
