All power

Early in Matthew's Gospel the devil took Jesus up a high mountain. He showed him every kingdom on earth and offered him everything, if Jesus would kneel before him. Jesus refused.

At the end, Jesus is on a mountain again. Now he says: all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Not seized or bargained for, but given by the Father, by way of the cross. It recalls the prophet Daniel, who in a vision saw a 'son of man' receive authority over all peoples and nations. Jesus often called himself the Son of Man.

Question for today

What changes if I believe that Jesus has all power?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you have all power in heaven and on earth. I entrust myself to you, with everything that worries me. Amen.
