In my vision in the night I continued to watch, and I saw One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into His presence.

In a vision Daniel sees one 'like a son of man' coming with the clouds of heaven, to the Ancient of Days. He receives dominion, glory and a kingdom that will never pass away; all peoples serve him.

'Son of Man' is Jesus' favourite name for himself, over eighty times in the Gospels. At his trial the high priest asks whether he is the Messiah. Jesus answers with Psalm 110 and Daniel 7: 'ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.' At that the high priest tears his clothes. To him it was blasphemy. This is probably the moment when Jesus says most clearly who he is.
