Set apart
Being made holy sounds like something for especially devout people. But in the Bible, to sanctify means: to set apart for God. A bowl in the temple was holy because it was meant for God's service, not because it was prettier than other bowls.
Jesus prays that his disciples will be set apart in this way, through God's word: thy word is truth. That word shapes them for the work ahead. Two verses later he says that he sanctifies himself for them. He leads the way.
Question for today
When do I give God's word room to shape me?
Prayer
Father, your word is truth. Set me apart for you, and let your word shape me, day by day. Amen.
