Word 469 of 491Calling

To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those sanctified by faith in Me.

Acts 26:18

BSB

Opening eyes

Paul stands as a prisoner before King Agrippa and tells how the risen Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus. Acts tells of his conversion three times, but only here is his commission given in full. The words resemble Isaiah, where God's servant opens blind eyes. Paul himself had been blind for three days. Now he, of all people, must open eyes.

The commission has an order: opening eyes, out of darkness into light, away from Satan's power to God, and then forgiveness. He wasn't given a complete plan. He had to tell what he had seen, and what Jesus would yet show him.

Question for today

How can my own former blindness help me understand someone else?

Prayer

Lord, there were times I was blind to what you were doing. Use that very thing to help others see. Amen.
