The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed. It would be better for him if he had not been born. You have said it yourself.

You said it yourself
After the announcement of the betrayal, the disciples ask one by one: surely not me, Lord? Judas asks the same, but says Rabbi. In Matthew he is the only disciple who addresses Jesus that way, here and later at the arrest in Gethsemane. Jesus answers: you have said it yourself. That is a yes, but Judas has to face it himself.
It happens as it is written, and yet Judas bears the responsibility. God's plan doesn't make a person's choice any smaller. One more detail: in Matthew, Jesus doesn't send Judas away from the table.
Question for today
Which choice should I honestly name myself, instead of waiting for someone else to say it?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, you let Judas stay at your table to the very end. Give me the courage to face my own choices honestly. Amen.
