Remember Lot's wife
Jesus is speaking about the day on which the Son of Man will be revealed. Then he briefly mentions a woman everyone knew. When Sodom was destroyed, Lot's wife looked back and became a pillar of salt. The Jewish historian Josephus writes that he saw that pillar of salt himself.
Genesis doesn't say why she looked back. Jesus connects it with what is still in the house: your belongings, your old life. She had left the city, but her heart hadn't. You can leave a place and still go on living there.
Question for today
What place have I left behind, though my heart still lives there?
Prayer
Lord, you call me onward. Loosen my heart from what I have already left behind. Amen.
My prayer
