The kingdom is here

Pharisees asked when the kingdom of God would come. They expected something visible, something you could point to. Jesus said: you can't say, look here or look there.

The Greek word can mean within you, but also among you, in your midst. Scholars disagree. Perhaps Jesus meant: I am standing here, right in front of you. The Gospel of Thomas has a similar saying. The kingdom is closer than you think.

Question for today

Where do I see the kingdom of God, here and now?

Prayer

Lord, your kingdom is near. Open my eyes to see it, within me and around me. Amen.
