Word 398 of 491Love

As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love. I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.

A joy that is full

These words end with joy: that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. Jesus says this when his suffering is already very close. So it isn't about a cheerfulness that depends on how things are going.

It all begins with the Father's love for the Son. Jesus passes that love on, and he asks only one thing: remain in it. You don't have to earn it. Whoever does what Jesus asks stays close to the source. That's where the joy comes from.

Question for today

What helps me to stay close to the love of Jesus today?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you have loved me as the Father loves you. Keep me in that love, and fill me with your joy. Amen.
