Truly, truly, I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

Happy if you do it
Jesus has just washed his disciples' feet, the work of a slave. Then he says that a slave does not rank above his master, and a messenger does not rank above the one who sent him. If the master doesn't think this work beneath him, his disciples needn't either.
Knowing alone isn't enough. But listen to the tone. Jesus doesn't say: you must. He says: happy are you if you do them. Doing isn't an extra burden on top of knowing. That is where the happiness lies.
Question for today
What have I known for a long time, but never really done?
Prayer
Father, I often know more than I do. Let me discover today the happiness Jesus promises to those who do it. Amen.
