Wait first
Jesus is together with his disciples, perhaps at table. They are given an instruction: stay in Jerusalem and wait for what the Father has promised. Jesus reminds them of John the Baptist, who had announced a baptism with the Holy Spirit. Some of the disciples had first been with John.
A few years earlier, by the Jordan, they had already heard it. Now Jesus says: in a few days. Waiting for a promise like that isn't sitting still. It is staying where you have been placed, until the time has come.
Question for today
Which old promise of God have I forgotten, though he is still working on it?
Prayer
Lord, I often want to start straight away. Teach me to wait for what you have promised, even when it seems to take a long time. Amen.
My prayer
