Is it not written in your Law: ‘I have said you are gods’? If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken— then what about the One whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world? How then can you accuse Me of blasphemy for stating that I am the Son of God? If I am not doing the works of My Father, then do not believe Me. But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe Me, believe the works themselves, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father.

You are gods
It is winter, the Feast of Dedication, now called Hanukkah. It commemorates the rededication of the temple in 164 BC. In Psalm 82 some people are called gods. If Scripture calls them that, why is it blasphemy when Jesus calls himself God's Son?
At a feast about a temple set apart for God, he says that the Father has set him apart. Doubters are given room. If you can't believe me, look at what I do. Faith may begin with what you see, before you can explain it.
Question for today
What do I see Jesus doing, even if I don't yet know what to believe about him?
Prayer
Father, I don't understand everything Jesus says about himself. Let me see what he does, and so bring me closer to you. Amen.
