One

Just before this Jesus says of his sheep: neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. And: no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. Two hands, one grip.

In Greek the word for one here is neuter: one thing, not one person. Yet his listeners understood that he was making himself equal with God. Again they took up stones. For those who follow him it means above all: you are safe in that hand.
