Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven.

Not his own idea
When asked who Jesus is, Peter answered: you are the Christ, Son of the living God. Jesus calls him by his full name: Simon Bar-jona, son of Jonah. Flesh and blood didn't show you this, he says. By flesh and blood, Jews meant an ordinary human being.
So the insight didn't come from his own cleverness, but from the Father. That takes the pressure off. Faith isn't a puzzle you have to solve on your own. You may ask for it. And if you see it, that is a gift, not an achievement.
Question for today
Do I dare to ask the Father for what I can't work out myself?
Prayer
Father in heaven, my mind alone won't get me there. Show me who Jesus is. Amen.
