Sent

The risen Jesus is with his disciples, and he gives them a task. Apostle is Greek for: someone who is sent out. John doesn't use that word for the disciples, but what it means happens right here. Someone who is sent doesn't go on their own authority, but on behalf of another.

One small word, as, sets the measure. As the Father sent Jesus, so he sends them: in love, vulnerable, ready to serve. Not as conquerors, but as messengers of peace. That still holds for everyone who follows him.

Question for today

Where is Jesus sending me today?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, as the Father sent you, so you send me. Give me your peace, and make me a messenger of your love. Amen.
