Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

One hour more
The King James Version speaks of adding one cubit to your stature. A cubit was about half a metre. The word for stature can also mean lifespan. That is why most modern translations speak of adding an hour to your life. That fits better too: who would want to be half a metre taller?
Worrying feels like doing something, as if it keeps things under control. Jesus punctures that, almost with humour. Worry adds nothing, not a day and not an hour. At most it costs you the hour you do have.
Question for today
What do I keep turning over in my head, as if that gives me control?
Prayer
Father, my days are in your hand, not in my worrying. Take over what I keep clutching at night. Amen.
My prayer
