Truly I tell you, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel will fail to receive a hundredfold in the present age—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.

A hundred times as much
Peter had just said: we have left everything and followed you. There was a question behind it: what do we get out of it? Jesus gives a surprising answer. Only Mark adds: along with persecutions.
Look too at what you receive. Houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields. Fathers aren't mentioned. Perhaps because in this new family there is only one Father. The hundredfold isn't a bank account, but a community in which strangers become family. And that comes with opposition.
Question for today
Who has become family to me since I started following Jesus?
Prayer
Father, you have given me people who became family along the way. Thank you for them. Keep me faithful when things go against me. Amen.
