Young man, arise

At the gate of Nain, Jesus met a funeral procession. The dead man was the only son of a widow. Without a husband and without a son, in those days she had no protection left.

Luke writes that Jesus had compassion on her and said to her: weep not. He touched the bier and the bearers stood still. Nobody had asked him anything. He saw her grief and stepped in.
