Search the Scriptures
The Greek can be read in two ways: search the Scriptures, or: you search the Scriptures. Jesus was speaking to people who knew the Scriptures very well.
His point: you can know everything about the text and still miss the most important thing. The Scriptures aren't an end in themselves. They point to someone. Research is good, as long as it brings you to him.

Does my research bring me closer to Jesus, or only to more knowledge?
