Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.

No fire from heaven
Luke writes that Jesus stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem. On the way a Samaritan village refused him lodging. James and John, whom Jesus called the sons of thunder, wanted to call down fire from heaven.
Jesus rebuked them. To be honest: the words quoted here are not in the oldest manuscripts. They were added later. But they sum up well what happened. Jesus simply went on to another village.
Question for today
Where do I want fire from heaven, while Jesus goes on to another village?
Prayer
Lord, when I am rejected I sometimes want revenge. Give me your spirit, which doesn't destroy but saves. Amen.
