Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?

A beam in your eye
An image from a carpenter: a speck of sawdust and a beam. It is deliberately exaggerated, almost comic. Someone with a whole beam in his eye who wants to help someone else with a speck.
Jesus doesn't say you may never say anything to anyone. He says: first take the beam out of your own eye, then you'll see clearly enough to help. Criticism begins with yourself.
Question for today
What beam is there in my own eye?
Prayer
Lord, I see other people's faults quickly. Let me first look honestly at myself, and only then, gently, at someone else. Amen.
