Count the cost

Jesus uses an image from building. Whoever wants to build a tower first makes a budget. Otherwise he lays a foundation and can't go on. Then everyone laughs: this man began to build, and was not able to finish.

This is about following Jesus. He doesn't want followers who start on a whim. He asks for a conscious choice. Whoever knows what it costs will also keep going.

Question for today

What does it cost me to follow Jesus, and am I willing to pay it?

Prayer

Lord, I like starting things. Help me to keep going too. Let me follow you with my eyes open, and finish what you have begun in me. Amen.
