Pergamum: a new name

Pergamum was a city of great temples. Christ calls it the place where Satan's seat is. Perhaps a reference to the enormous altar of Zeus, which now stands in Berlin, or to the cult of the emperor.

What the white stone means exactly, we don't know for certain. In the ancient world white stones were used as votes for acquittal and as admission tickets to a feast. The promise is personal: a new name that only you know. An identity nobody can take from you.

Question for today

What name would God give me?

Prayer

Lord, you know me better than anyone. Give me the new name you have for me. Amen.
