Two prayers

A Pharisee prays in the temple and lists what he does well. He fasts twice a week and gives a tenth of everything. His prayer is full of I.

A tax collector stands at the back and doesn't dare to look up. He only says: God be merciful to me a sinner. From that short prayer, the Jesus Prayer later grew in the Eastern church. Jesus says it was this man who went home justified.

Question for today

How much I is there in my prayer?

Prayer

God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Amen.
