The Nazareth manifesto

In the synagogue of his own village, Jesus was handed the scroll of Isaiah. He read these words, rolled up the scroll and sat down. Everyone was looking at him. Then he said: this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

It is a kind of manifesto for everything that follows. Good news for the poor, healing for broken hearts, freedom for captives. And it starts in Nazareth, where they already knew him as Joseph's son. That was exactly where he wasn't believed.

Question for today

Which broken heart around me needs good news?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you came for the poor and the broken. Come to me too, where I am poor and broken. And send me to those who need you. Amen.
