Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

Peace that stays

Jesus says this on the evening before his crucifixion. He knows what is coming. Yet he doesn't speak about fear, but about peace. And he adds that his peace is different from the world's.

The world gives peace when everything is going well. When the numbers add up and the project is done. Jesus gives peace in the middle of unrest. It is not the absence of problems, but the presence of someone greater than the problems.

Question for today

What is troubling my heart today?

Prayer

Lord, you gave peace on the hardest evening of your life. Give me that peace too. Not because everything is solved, but because you are here. Amen.
