From the inside out

Pharisees saw that the disciples ate without first ritually washing their hands. Jesus answered with a principle that turned everything upside down. It isn't what goes in that makes you unclean, but what comes out.

Then he lists thirteen things that come out of the heart, from evil thoughts and theft to pride and foolishness. The problem isn't outside us, in food or rules. It is inside. That is where he wants to start.

Question for today

What comes out of my heart?

Prayer

Lord, you look beyond the outside. Make my heart clean, so that what comes out of it is good. Amen.
