In the olive press

Gethsemane means olive press. In that garden, under the olive trees, Jesus felt so sorrowful that he said it was almost killing him. He prayed three times.

His prayer is honest. He says what he wants: rather not. And then he places his will in the Father's. Surrender isn't pretending you have no will of your own. It is saying what you want, and letting it go anyway.

Question for today

What would I honestly rather not face, and can I give it to God anyway?

Prayer

Father, you know what I would rather not. I tell you honestly. And yet: not my will, but yours. Give me the strength Jesus had. Amen.
