Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven.

One sound
For agree, the Greek uses a word that gives us our word symphony: different voices making one sound together. Jesus says this in the middle of a conversation about quarrels and reconciliation in the church. Just before, it was about someone you want to win back.
It is a great promise. But not every prayer of two people is answered the way they hope. It isn't a trick. Praying together with one voice only works once you have listened to each other. Sometimes that is the hardest part.
Question for today
Who do I disagree with, and could I still pray together with that person?
Prayer
Father in heaven, side by side we so easily sound out of tune. Tune our hearts to one another. Amen.
My prayer
