If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.

A name and a gate
This is the only parable of Jesus in which someone has a name. The poor man is called Lazarus, a form of Eleazar: God helps. The rich man has no name. He had everything, except that.
After his death the rich man wants Lazarus to go and warn his brothers. The answer is sobering. Whoever doesn't listen to what has already been said won't be persuaded by a miracle either. The problem is rarely a lack of evidence.
Question for today
Who is lying at my gate, without my seeing him?
Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to whoever lies at my gate. And let me listen to what you have already said. Amen.
