If only you had known on this day what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes.

He wept over the city
During the entry into the city, when he saw it lying before him, Jesus wept. In the middle of the cheering. He saw beyond that day.
Forty years later, in the year 70, the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the temple. Jesus didn't speak like a judge pronouncing sentence, but like someone weeping for what might have been. The name Jerusalem echoes the Hebrew word for peace: shalom.
Question for today
What belongs to my peace today, and do I see it?
Prayer
Lord, you wept over Jerusalem. Weep over our cities too, and let us recognise what belongs to our peace. Amen.
