No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.

Friend of God
In the Bible, Abraham is called a friend of God. That was a unique title of honour. At royal courts in the East there was also the title 'friend of the king': someone from the small circle who knew the ruler's plans.
A servant carries out orders without being told why. A friend is taken into confidence. To fishermen and a tax collector Jesus says: all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. That is how close he lets them come.
Question for today
What does Jesus share with me, and what do I share with him?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, you tell me what you heard from the Father. Thank you for that trust. Teach me to listen to you, and to tell you everything too. Amen.
