Word 16 of 310Rest

I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.

The branch doesn't strain

Jesus compares himself to a vine and his disciples to the branches. A branch makes no effort to produce grapes. It only has to stay attached. The sap comes from the vine.

For people who like working hard, that is a confronting word. Without me ye can do nothing. Not a little. Nothing. Fruit doesn't come from pushing harder, but from staying connected.

Question for today

Where am I trying to bear fruit without staying connected?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you are the vine. Keep me close to you today. Let what I do come from you, and not only from my own strength. Amen.
