He knew, and wept anyway

Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days when Jesus arrived. To his sister Martha he said: I am the resurrection and the life.

A little later, at the tomb, Jesus wept. He knew he would raise Lazarus. Yet he wept with the people around him. Hope doesn't mean grief is forbidden. Jesus takes death seriously, and then overcomes it.

Question for today

What grief may I bring to Jesus today, without explaining it away?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you wept at your friend's grave. Thank you that you don't brush my grief aside. You are the resurrection and the life. Give me a hope that looks beyond the grave. Amen.
