Light at the feast
Jesus said this in the temple in Jerusalem, around the Feast of Tabernacles. According to the Mishnah, great lamps burned in the temple court during that feast. The light was so bright that the whole city was lit up.
Against that background Jesus says: I am the light. Not a lamp that burns for one week a year. A light that goes with you, even when it is dark. Whoever follows him does not walk in darkness.

Where is it dark in my life right now, and do I dare to let light in?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, light of the world, shine into what I would rather keep hidden. Show me where I am walking. And let me be a little light for whoever crosses my path today. Amen.
