A door in and out
A sheepfold was often no more than a stone wall with one opening. Whoever was inside was safe at night from wild animals and thieves.
What Jesus adds is striking: go in and out. He is not a door that slams shut behind you. He is the safe place and the way out, to the pasture. Faith is not a cage, but a home from which you go out into the world.

Do I look to Jesus only for safety, or also for the way out?

Lord Jesus, you are the door. Let me be safe with you, and let me go out into the day from you. Lead me to good pasture. Amen.
