God first

Hallowed means set apart, different from everything else. The first request isn't about what we need, but about God himself.

Look at how the prayer is built. The first three requests are about God: his name, his kingdom, his will. Only then do we come in: bread, forgiveness, protection. That order is a lesson in itself.

Question for today

Where does my prayer usually begin, with God or with myself?

Prayer

Father, your name is holy. Let my life today show something of you, and not only of me. Amen.
