Who became the neighbour?
A lawyer asked: who is my neighbour? Jesus told of a man who was attacked on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho, a road that drops more than a thousand metres through the desert. A priest and a Levite walked past. A Samaritan helped.
For Jewish listeners a Samaritan as the hero was shocking. And Jesus turns the question around. Not: who is my neighbour? But: who became a neighbour to the man in need?
Question for today
For whom can I become a neighbour today?
Prayer
Lord, I often walk past. Open my eyes and my hands. Make me a neighbour to whoever is lying by the road. Amen.
